Baby Plants - Calathea Orbifolia

Calathea Orbifolia, or round-leaved calathea, is a wonderful little houseplant with distinct, large green leaves, striped with pretty white bands spreading outwards from their middles. This tropical beauty will thrive in a well-draining soil, avoiding waterlogging or overt dryness, in a space with a moderate amount of light and high humidity.

Originating from South America, this prayer plant variety’s bold, oval leaves lend a designer look to any indoor space, making the Calathea an excellent statement plant for your home.

While the Orbifolia is a stunning plant, it can be a bit fussy and would not be described as low maintenance. Frequent watering and misting will keep the exotic, humidity loving Calathea at its best, and be well worth the effort for its many qualities: fast growing rate, non-toxicity to dogs or cats, and beautifully marked foliage.

Growing your Calathea from its baby stage and watching it mature over time, from a tiny leafy stem to a healthy, fully grown plant is a delight to witness.

It’s not unusual to give your plant a name… so don’t hesitate to choose one that you think suits the plant! Try naming your plant with the first name or word that you think of when you look at it - that’s how we ended up with an orchid named Clover and spider plant called Joseph.
