Chaenomeles 'Pink Lady' is a delightful, spreading, deciduous shrub. In early spring it shows off deep coral pink, cup-shaped flowers that are borne on thorny branches with glossy, mid-green leaves. In autumn the flowers are replaced by golden-green, fragrant fruits that can be made into jellies and preserves. This is a truly wonderful Japanese Quince variety, perfect for training against a wall or fence and it makes a useful, impenetrable ground-cover.
Plant in moderately fertile, well-drained soil and in sun or partial shade. It will only require occasional watering. After flowering prune side-shoots to five or six leaves and remove crossing or ill-placed stems. Once established remove excess growth in late spring or summer and cut back all side-shoots to two or three leaves.
