Fargesia Robusta Pingwu (14cm, V3)

Fargesia Robusta Pingwu is a striking bamboo that is extremely hardy and once established requires very little maintenance.

This bamboo creates a distinctive display in any size of garden. It is incredibly versatile and can be used to add height interest in borders and containers as well as being planted in ground to form a hedge for privacy.  Growing to an ultimate height of 4-5m, Fargesia Robusta Pingwu is a well behaved plant that won’t encroach on areas you don’t want it to. It has a spread of around 1.5m and its non-invasive qualities make it a popular option for smaller gardens.

Commonly known as Umbrella Bamboo, this plant is ideal for providing interest and colour over the winter months. It is extremely hardy to temperatures as low as -20°C and its evergreen nature ensures colour and privacy is retained even through the worst of the winter weather. Umbrella Bamboo can tolerate windy areas and is perfect for hedging or screening off parts of the garden. It likes sunlight but refers to be in an area where it is sheltered from the sun in the afternoon, when the sunlight is most damaging.

New shoots blossom from the strong culms in early spring and change from yellow to a stunning rust red before progressing to a light bright green in early summer. The leaves will then begin to peel away, leaving a striking checkerboard effect on the tall elegant canes. New leaves and branches will appear towards the top of the culms in autumn and these will flourish right through winter.
