Herbs - Curry Plant, Helichrysum Italicum

Commonly known as curry plants, Helichrysum Italicum are attractive garden herbs with shimmering, silvery, linear foliage. They work well as ground cover plants in borders and make excellent bedding plants, contrasting beautifully with darker garden plants. In summer, yellow flower clusters appear, with the tiny blooms forming dome shapes. Curry plants are bee friendly plants, attracting bees and other pollinators to the garden.

Unsurprisingly given the name, these are highly scented plants with a spicy, curry-like fragrance. The leaves are edible and can be used to flavour salads, rice, and egg dishes. The flowers can be harvested to make herbal teas.

Helichrysum Italicum is easy to care for in the right conditions. It is drought-tolerant, preferring well-drained soil, and likes a sunny position out of strong winds. While curry plants grow well in a large plant pot or container, they need additional insulation to prevent the roots from frost damage. If you’d like to grow your own herbs, this is an excellent choice to start off your herb garden.
