Melittis Royal Velvet Distinction

A herbaceous perennial with pleasantly scented foliage and showy Spring flowering blooms. The Melittis ‘Royal Velvet Distinction’, sometimes known as Bastard Balm or Honey Balm, is a clumping, rather compact plant with mid-green foliage and stems which are both covered in fuzzy trichomes and emit a lovely honey fragrance. Late Spring bring whorls of Orchid-like blooms of striking purple and white which last through to the start of Summer.

Plant in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil and keep in partial sun in a sheltered position. Can be planted in sunny locations but soil moisture must be maintained as these cultivars dislike dry soils. An attractive pollinator.
