Seed Potatoes (Main Crop)

Main Crop Seed Potatoes have great qualities such as a floury texture, unique taste and great versatility that allows them to be used for boiling, chipping or roasting. Depending on which variety you choose, the potatoes can be resistant to drought, disease, slugs and eelworm. The potatoes will tend to harvest in the months of July to October, again, depending on the variety you choose. Late March is when they should be planted, in a sheltered plot in the garden where moist, well-drained soil is present. Although, If you have limited space, you can also grow them in potato bags on a patio.

When you grow Main Crop Seed Potatoes, you should avoid planting them in the same plot where potatoes have been grown for two years in succession. The area should be sheltered with full sunlight, moist, well-drained soil and well rotted manure all present. The potatoes should be planted in rows, spaced out by 45cm. The rows themselves should be spaced out by 75cm. Then, plant the seed potatoes in 10cm deep holes and refill them with soil. Once their shoots reach 20cm, mound up the soil around the shoots. Repeat this process after another 3 weeks of growth.
