Spiraea Goldflame (9cm)

Spiraea Japonica Goldflame is a stunning variety with dense golden foliage that is sure to create a real impact in your garden. It is an upright deciduous shrub that blooms beautiful dark pink flowers from late spring to mid-summer. Also known as the Japanese Spiraea, Goldflame is noted for its extremely gorgeous, colour changing foliage. It produces bronze-red leaves in spring that mature to yellow-green or golden-lime in summer, and eventually turn into copper-orange in autumn. In summer, panicles of rose-pink flowers appear in clusters above the foliage, creating a spectacular contrast against the multi-coloured leaves.

Goldflame Spiraea is an interesting plant that does not demand a lot of maintenance or upkeep. It can adapt to a variety of soils but prefers moist and well-drained soils in particular. Plant it in a sheltered or exposed location in full sun or partial shade. Although it does not demand a heavy feed, a slight effort of applying a liquid fertilizer will ensure the strong development of its roots.

Goldflame grows bushy but still requires low pruning, enough to keep its proper shape in control. Trim the over growing shoots in spring, right before the leaves emerge on new branches. Remove any faded flowers to encourage new ones.
